Indian company Sagar shares its secret to success in the spinning industry

A modern building in Bhopal, India. A man is about to enter his office. It looks as if he is entering a temple: He takes off his shoes and bends down to touch the ground. This sign is proof enough that traditional Indian culture and values are lived in this company. The gentleman is Mr. Sudhir Kumar Agrawal, Chairman of Sagar Group, the fastest growing company conglomerate in Madhya Pradesh, India. He says: “I always had firm belief in our strong value system at Sagar Group. Our biggest strength and treasure are our people.”

The common journey of Truetzschler and Sagar Manufacturers Pvt Ltd.

In its journey of over three decades, Sagar Group has successfully ventured in different sectors, e.g. the field of education, real estate, production and manufacturing, and was taken to new heights by Mr. Sudhir Kumar Agrawal. When the group ventured into the textile business in 2012 by setting up a spinning mill, Sagar Manufacturers Pvt Ltd. (SMPL), Mr. Agrawal was ably assisted by his son, Siddarth Agrawal, Managing Director of Sagar Group. At that point, the common journey of SMPL and Truetzschler began: “When we started the spinning mill, we required the best technology available and Truetzschler was a perfect match”, explains Mr. Sudhir Kumar Agrawal.

Another person who was involved into the spinning mill project right from the beginning is Mr. Vinod Kumar Jain, Executive Director at SMPL. He is a well-known technology expert in India and leaves no room for ambiguity when it comes to quality:

“At Sagar we strive for optimum utilization of technology and resources, targeting quality production with an aim of exceeding customer expectations. Our workers are well versed with the Truetzschler technology and therefore all our four units comprising of 150,000 spindles have Truetzschler blow-room and cards. We have completed a ‘Century’ of Truetzschler cards – currently, we have 115 of them running in our four units”,  Mr. Vinod Kumar Jain happily states.

Latest technology and good employee management are the key to success

SMPL believes in long-lasting, world class technology and automation solutions with an excellent price/performance ratio to remain competitive in the market. Further, training and development are key with regard to the optimum use of technology and controls. It belongs to SMPL’s philosophy to take good care of their employees and to offer training, accommodation and useful facilities for more than 1200 people at their sites. Currently, SMPL produces about 85 tons of high-quality yarn per day, of which 65 %  are supposed to be exported. Count varies between Ne 20s and 40s which include 100 % cotton combed fancy slub yarns, quality-labeled yarns (e. g. by Better Cotton Initiative) as well as combed compact yarn for weaving and knitting including grey knitted fabrics normal cotton and lycra blend. With regard to future expansion plans, Mr. Vinod Kumar Jain said that SMPL will be expanding their mill by 42,000 spindles and 22 of the latest Truetzschler cards, the 1,28 m card TC 15.
